Starting in a sales job selling products you know is a good idea. The easier it is for you to talk about a product, the more confident you will feel. Different people will choose different types of shops, but they could be hobby shops, bike shops, clothing shops or shoe shops. The main thing to focus on in this job is talking with customers. If you can ask your customers leading questions you will be better at helping them.

Sales are all about getting the customer to talk. You need to get the customer talking about what they want, and this will help them get into the state of mind where they are ready to buy. You want authentic interaction, not a rehearsed speech that will bore the customer. Once you have them talking about what they like about a product you can build up their confidence in the product by agreeing with them on the benefits and down playing the draw backs.

Making the close is the part people usually dread about sales jobs. You may loose out on the sale if you do not go for a close. Ask if they'd like to pay by cash or card.

You can apply for better jobs when you have gained experience and confidence. When you are earning commission you want to try to find a job where you can sell expensive products.
